2015: Community Relations
Inspired by Mayor Antanas Mockus of Bogota, Colombia, who fired the city’s traffic cops and offered them retraining and employment as mimes in the 1990s, BART closes their police unit and does the same. They cite better relations through disarmament in 2013 as key to the decision.
